The general director of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), Sandoval Feitosa, said that there is no confirmed information on the causes of the blackout and considered that “an event of this proportion needs to be evaluated with criteria, so that we can see the specific cause ”.
The director’s speech came after the deliberative meeting that takes place every Tuesday at the agency’s headquarters. According to the director, this type of large occurrence needs to have the causes identified so that “problems in the future” are avoided.
Around 2 pm, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, called representatives of Aneel and the National System Operator (ONS) to a meeting in the “situation room”, created to overcome the crisis.
Since the first news about the blackout, the ministry formed the group that monitors the situation of the electrical system in real time.
The first objective is to restore electricity throughout the country. The note sent by the ministry at 12:40 pm informed that “all the capitals of the Northeast also had their energy supply normalized”. The communiqué also reported that 41% of the cargo in the North region and 85% in the Northeast region had been recomposed by 12:30 pm.
