Diesel retreats 1.5% in the 1st half of February; gasoline and ethanol rise, says Ticket Log

The price of diesel fell by more than 1.5% on average at fuel pumps across the country in the period from February 1st to February 13th, after a reduction in prices at Petrobras refineries, according to data from the latest Ticket Price Index Log (IPTL).

In the national average, common diesel was sold at 6.67 reais, with a decrease of 1.53%, compared to January; and the S-10 type, at 6.76 reais, 1.56% lower.

“According to the IPTL, the downward trend in the value of diesel, identified in December and January, continues now in February with the reflections of the last reduction announced (by Petrobras)”, said Douglas Pina, General Director of Mobility at Edenred Brasil, which owns the Ticket Log brand.

Petrobras reduced the average price of diesel sold to distributors by 8.89%, on the last 8th.

Rio Grande do Sul led the ranking of the lowest averages for diesel, with the common diesel at 6.11 reais and the S-10 at 6.21 reais. Among the highest averages across the country, Roraima stood out with the common type at 7.78 reais and Amapá, with the S-10 at 7.94 reais/liter.

In the analysis by region, all registered a reduction in the price of fuel, with emphasis on the South, which presented the most expressive decreases and also the lowest average price in the country for both types of diesel.

The IPTL is a fuel price index calculated based on fueling carried out at the 21,000 accredited Ticket Log stations, Edenred Brasil’s fleet management and mobility solutions brand.

Gasoline and ethanol

The average price of gasoline at gas stations in Brazil rose by 1.56% between February 1st and February 13th compared to January, at R$5.40 per liter, while hydrous ethanol, its direct competitor at the pumps, advanced by 1.21%, at 4.44 reais per litre, according to a survey by Ticket Log.

“The higher price for gasoline is a reflection of the last increase of 7.47% for fuel sold to refineries, announced on January 24th”, said Pina.

As for ethanol, Pina pointed out that at the beginning of the month, the consecutive increases recorded in recent months for the liter of biofuel began to slow down in the country.

“Between February and March, the supply of the product should increase in the market and reflect on further price reduction.”

In the analysis by region, the North not only led the ranking of the highest averages for both fuels, but also the most expressive increases. Gasoline was sold at R$5.67 at gas stations in the region, with an increase of 2.92%, while ethanol closed at R$4.77 in the period and increased by 5.39%.
