In the plot, the character played by Jim Carrey He is a peaceful insurance salesman who leads a simple life with his wife, until some things around him make him start to feel strange about his city, his supposed friends and even his wife.
After meeting the mysterious Lauren, he becomes intrigued and ends up discovering thatthat his entire life is nothing more than a lie, it was monitored by cameras and broadcast on national television.
A year after the release of the film, which was acclaimed by critics and the public, Dutch businessman John de Mol created the reality show Big Brother, which aired in his home country. Later versions were made in several countries, such as Brazil.
