The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio, in a statement, referred to the latest developments in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. In particular, the head of Italian diplomacy stressed:
“We have decided to ask, for precautionary reasons, all Italian citizens who are in Ukraine to return to our country by commercial means and to postpone all travel to Ukraine. Another decision we have taken is the repatriation of that part of the staff of our embassy in Kiev, which is not absolutely necessary. Our embassy, however, remains fully operational. These days I had talks with my European counterparts and with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. “We are all working to prevent the escalation of tensions in the Ukrainian crisis.”
“Italy fully recognizes the territorial integrity of Ukraine and is making efforts – in close coordination with its NATO and EU allies – to establish a stable position and at the same time seek a diplomatic solution to the crisis by maintaining a dialogue with Moscow. “hoping to get substantial messages in favor of de-escalating the tension,” Luigi Di Maio added.
