Deputy’s aide arrested for driving stolen car in Rio

An aide to federal deputy Carlos Roberto Rodrigues (PP-RJ), known as Bebeto, was arrested on the night of last Thursday (25) after being caught by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) while driving a stolen car. Another man was in the car, but was released, according to the corporation.

Rafael Oliveira was stopped on the Presidente Dutra highway, in the northern part of Rio de Janeiro. According to the PRF, Oliveira had a pistol with three magazines and 32 rounds of ammunition inside the stolen vehicle.

After approaching the car, the police found that the identification plates were out of order and that the vehicle had been stolen in May in Vila Isabel, also in the northern part of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

Police say that, after being questioned, Oliveira stated that he was an aide to a congressman and that he was “unaware of the irregularities.” He claimed that the vehicle was rented. Regarding the possession of the pistol, he allegedly said that he was unaware of the need for authorization and mentioned “changes in the legislation.”

A CNN the office of Congressman Carlos Roberto Rodrigues reported that it is unaware of any involvement by Rafael Oliveira in illicit activities. Even so, it stated that the request for the advisor’s dismissal was made this Friday (26).

“I reiterate that I have never been involved in any illegal acts and I repudiate any type of crime and I have always valued the integrity of the civil servants who work with me,” reads an excerpt from the statement. The note adds that the car found “has no connection” with his mandate.

Regarding the other man who was in the vehicle, the deputy says that he is not assigned to his office.

The incident was registered at the 39th DP (Pavuna).
