Federal deputy Reimont Otoni (PT-RJ) said, on Saturday (25), that his niece Ellen Otoni, 37, was the victim of attempted femicide.
In a publication on Twitter, the parliamentarian reports that Ellen was the victim of an attack by her boyfriend, Weldrin Alcântara, who allegedly fired seven shots at her.
According to Otoni, Ellen fractured her jaw and had three bullets lodged in her body, in areas around her neck, arm and leg. She remains in the hospital recovering.
“The attempted femicide that my niece suffered is not an isolated case. Every second, a woman is attacked in our country, in the most diverse ways. Last year, violence numbers hit record. This shows us that we need to fight, without rest, for the strengthening of public policies that welcome, defend, for policies that raise awareness. It is for the lives of women”, said the deputy.
The case was registered in the Liberdade neighborhood, in the Pampulha region, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, on Thursday night (23).
In a note released on Friday (24), the Civil Police of Minas Gerais stated that it is investigating the attempted femicide. Until then, the suspect had not been arrested. The official expertise was displaced and the firearm, possibly used in the crime, was found at the scene and seized.
A CNN seeks contact with the Civil Police of Minas Gerais for updates on the case.
