Its prime minister Denmark Mete Frederiksen assured on Monday that he is not seeking to take over his leadership NATOafter the meeting he had with US President Joe Biden and CIA Director William Burns.
“I’ve said it before, that I’m not running for any other position than the one I already hold, and that didn’t change after my meeting with the American president,” Fredericksen told reporters outside the White House.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is set to leave the post later this year. Frederiksen’s name, as a possible successor, has been heard a lot in recent weeks, following a related publication in the Norwegian newspaper VG.
Fredericksen told reporters she met with Burns in Washington but did not elaborate. Her talks with Biden were scheduled to last 45 minutes but ended up lasting about two hours.
