Dengue: Brazil approaches 1 million cases in 2024

Brazil registered 920,427 probable cases of dengue, according to data released by the Ministry of Health this Monday (26). The folder also confirms 184 deaths from the disease.

Another 609 deaths are being investigated to find out whether they are related to dengue.

The incidence rate in the country is 453.3 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.

According to data from the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel, Minas Gerais is the state with the most probable cases, with 311.33 cases. Next is São Paulo, with 161,397 diagnoses.

Federal District (98,169), Paraná (94,361), Rio de Janeiro (71,494), Goiás (54,540), Espírito Santo (30,729) and Santa Catarina (23,601) also have high numbers of cases of the disease.

In terms of incidence per 100,000 inhabitants, six states are above the ministry's red alert, which considers 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The Federal District, with 3,484.8 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, leads in this regard. Minas Gerais (1,515.8), Acre (828.7) – with 6,878 probable cases -, Paraná (824.6), Espírito Santo (801.6) and Goiás (773.0) complete the list.

The states of Rio de Janeiro (445.3), São Paulo (363.3) and Santa Catarina (310) are also approaching maximum alert.

Six states and the DF have already declared an emergency due to dengue. They are: Acre, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Espírito Santo, Santa Catarina and Rio de Janeiro.

Last week the Ministry of Health reported that it had completed the delivery of the first batch of vaccines, which began to be sent on February 8th. In total, 717 thousand doses were delivered to 315 municipalities in the Federal District and nine other states: Acre, Amazonas, Bahia, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and São Paulo.
