March deforestation on indigenous lands:

When looking at March 2024, the drop in deforestation was 89% compared to the same period in 2023, going from 3.77 km² to 0.42 km². Of the seven most deforested indigenous lands, Roraima was the most affected state.

Deforestation in the Legal Amazon continues to fall:

Considering the entire area of the Legal Amazon, which encompasses nine states in Brazil, the numbers for the deforestation calendar had a 60% reduction in forest felling in the last period analyzed, it is the lowest value in the historical series since the 2018 calendar.

Between August 2023 and March 2024, the affected region was 1,948 km². In the previous period, this number was 4,912 km². Despite the reduction, the area of 1,948 km² is still equivalent to a territory larger than the city of São Paulo.

In relation to March 2024, there was a 64% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. This is equivalent to the 12th consecutive month with a drop in forest loss, presenting 124 km² of deforestation.

In relation to the states, Amazonas, Mato Grosso and Roraima were the ones that deforested the most in the third month of the year, they had consecutively 28%, 26% and 25%, accounting for 79% of the devastation in the entire Legal Amazon, which represents 98 km² , an area similar to the city of Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo.
