The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police is investigating whether lawyer Rodrigo Marinho Crespo, 42, was a victim of execution. According to witnesses, he had gone to have a snack with his nephew, who is also a lawyer, close to the office where he works, in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, on Monday afternoon (26), when a criminal called him by name and shot him. .
According to public security specialist José Ricardo Bandeira, the way the criminals acted leaves no doubt that an execution took place. “The criminal was in the back seat of a car, he already knew the victim's routine, when he got out of the vehicle, with his face covered, he called the victim by name and fired a large number of shots. This high number of shots could indicate a hate crime”, explained Bandeira.
Images from security cameras that are already in the possession of investigators show that a white vehicle double parks and waits for the victim. When the lawyer passes by the scene, a man gets out of the car and shoots him in the face and chest. The criminal approaches and shoots more times at the man, already on the ground. Soon after, he returns to the car and leaves, without taking Rodrigo's belongings. The action lasts just over ten seconds. People passing by on the sidewalk are frightened by the crime and run away.
What you can't see in the images is that the victim's nephew was also grazed in the arm, according to witnesses. The boy was saved because he went to get ketchup to put in his snack.
Still according to Bandeira, an expert in Criminology and forensic psychoanalysis, it was not just a ordered death, but a crime that involved a lot of hatred, since the executioner, due to the number of shots, estimated at around 15, wanted to make sure that the victim would not resist. “There is no doubt that it was an execution and what we need to find out now is what motivated this execution, who was the executioner, the accomplices who were also in the vehicle and, logically, who ordered this crime. We need to find out if there is any involvement in his professional activity as a lawyer, if this influenced in any way, if it caused any friction in any way or if it was, for example, a crime of passion, an involvement that he could have had with another person. So, the line of investigation, without a doubt, will be in this direction”, believes the expert.
Progress of investigations
On Tuesday morning (27), police officers from the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) went to the headquarters of the Brazilian Bar Association in Rio (OAB/RJ), which is 50 meters from where the crime took place. They asked for more information and tried to look for other camera videos that could help identify those responsible for the crime.
The examination was carried out on site, on Monday (26). In addition to analyzing the cameras, the DH teams have also heard witnesses to the authorship and tried to understand the motivation for the lawyer's death.
Also this Tuesday (27), Hotline published a poster in order to obtain information that will lead to the identification and arrest of those involved in the lawyer's death.
