THE American weight loss reality show Deadly Kilos documents the journey of people fighting obesity and trying to save and improve their lives.
Among the stories told are surprising reports involving eating disorders, kidnappings, fights between siblings and even accusations of murder. Remember notable stories from the program .
Schenee Murry
At the time of the program, the 28-year-old woman weighed more than 300 kilos and needed to lose weight to have bariatric surgery. The story is told in the 13th episode of the sixth season of the reality show.
After giving up participating in the program, she created crowdfunding to help her lose weight — which raised around R$1,631 — and said she was “humiliated on national TV and has been fighting for everything ever since.”
Mayra Rosales
When starting the program, the woman weighed around 450 kilos and was unable to walk, take a shower and had great difficulty even lifting her upper body.
His story began to change with the death of his nephew — who was murdered by his own mother, Myra’s sister. At first, the Kilos Mortais participant took the blame, saying she had fallen on top of the boy, but the crime was solved and she was responsible for her other nephews.
Upon receiving the responsibility, she began to lose weight and decided to change her life to take care of the children, losing around 80% of her weight.
Assanti Brothers
Steven and Justin together weighed approximately 600 kilos and their stories were shown in the first episode of the fourth season of Deadly Kilos. The first, older, had an addiction to food and medicine and emotional problems — which made it difficult for him to lose weight.
Unable to lose 18 kilos to undergo the surgery proposed by the reality show’s doctor, Steven was only able to successfully undergo treatment when he was prohibited from receiving medication in the hospital.
Substance withdrawal became a turning point in his life, causing him to lose 33 pounds and qualify for bariatrics.
Justin, the youngest brother, was very focused on work and did not want to engage in weight loss treatment. After having his painkillers stolen by his brother, he abandoned treatment and broke all ties with Steven, deciding to follow his own path.
Robert Buchel
Participating in the eighth episode of the sixth season of the reality show, Buchel weighed 381 kilos — but managed to undergo bariatric surgery, common for the show’s protagonists.
Even with his weight loss, losing around 150 kilos, Robert developed an addiction to painkillers, which contributed to the heart attack that caused his death in November 2017, at the age of 41, while filming Deadly Kilos.
Marla McCants
Her eating disorder developed from the event in which she was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend, motivated by the stress generated by the situation in which she feared he would return to kill her.
The third season of the reality show shows his struggle with the scales after discovering that he could die in his apartment from a blood clot that reached his lung.
She moves to Houston, where the clinic of the surgeon responsible for the program’s treatments is located, and begins to actively fight for a new life.
