Data review should postpone vote on Eletrobras privatization at TCU

The Minister of the Federal Audit Court (TCU) Vital do Rêgo, rapporteur for the privatization process of electrobras, found a divergence in the modeling of the privatization of the state-owned company informed by the federal government and the data that, according to him, would be correct.

The divergence pointed out by the minister generated an impasse in the judgment of the privatization of Eletrobras that is being evaluated by the TCU.

The perspective is that the vote on the project, one of the government’s priorities, will not take place this week, as previously foreseen, or next.

There are chances that the TCU will analyze the project at the end of February, or only in the month of March. The difference in calculation, according to Lima, would be “brutal”, delaying the analysis process.

In January of this year, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) stated that the expectation was that the Eletrobras capitalization offer would take place in mid-March. The pricing of the operation was scheduled to take place in April.

The privatization was approved by the Congress in 2021, and ratification of the TCU is the last step before carrying out the process. At first, the court would analyze the project in 2021, but it postponed it to 2022 after a request for a view from Minister Vital do Rêgo.
