The closure of field information collection and verification of the 2022 Census ends this Sunday (28). The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) announced that definitive data on the Brazilian population will be released on June 28.
When participating in a meeting with demographers and statisticians from Brazil and several other countries, last week, the interim president of the institute, Cimar Azeredo, admitted mistakes and successes since the beginning of the Census, on August 1 of last year.
However, he cited the use of technology as positive and successful mobilization actions, such as Favela no Mapa and Condominio no Mapa, calling on residents of these areas to respond to questionnaires and which helped to reduce to up to 4.5% the refusal of the population to the Census.
The IBGE also had problems with hiring, paying and maintaining census takers working in the field. This caused the publication of information to be postponed several times.
According to the institute, until the 25th of December, 207 million 750 thousand and 291 Brazilians had been counted, most of them – 87 million 348 thousand 223 – concentrated in the Southeast region. Of these, more than half, 46 million 24 thousand 937 in the state of São Paulo.
