Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis sent a letter to the US Marshals Service demanding a legal assessment of the actions of the Joe Biden administration regarding the possible sale of 69,370 bitcoins.

In her address, Cynthia Lummis said that the Joe Biden administration’s attempts to sell bitcoins owned by the United States constitute a “form of political revenge” against the incoming government of Donald Trump.

“Bitcoin sales during the presidential election period are deliberately contrary to the stated policy goals of the new Donald Trump administration regarding the creation of a national reserve in bitcoins,” Lummis writes.

Senator notedthat plans to form a national reserve in the first cryptocurrency involve preserving all BTC owned by the US government. The outgoing Biden administration, in an attempt to “spoil its rival,” has already deprived “American taxpayers of more than $18.5 billion in unrealized profits” during the asset sale.

Lummis added that the Department of Justice intends to quickly sell another 69,370 BTC, citing the high volatility of Bitcoin prices. However, according to the politician, the timing and aggressive behavior of officials raise serious questions about the extent to which long-term strategic interests of the United States were properly taken into account.

Previously, Cynthia Lummis proposed a strategy for acquiring bitcoins to create a government reserve through the conversion of gold certificates of the US Treasury.
