Cuba condemns Trump’s plan to send Guantanamo Naval Base Immigrants

Cuba’s government has criticized US President Donald Trump’s plan to house tens of thousands of migrants at the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

“In an act of brutality, the new US government announces the arrest at the Guantanamo Naval base, located in illegally occupied Cuban territory, of thousands of migrants that expels them, and will place them alongside the well -known illegal centers for torture and detention ”Wrote Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on his X profile.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said the announcement “shows contempt for human condition and international law.”

Trump said on Wednesday (29) that he will sign an executive action by ordering the federal government to prepare the base for immigrants. “We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to stop the worst illegal criminals that threaten the American people. This will double our ability immediately, ”said Trump.

Although the base is better known for its detention field where the United States maintains suspects of terrorism, Guantanamo’s base also houses an immigrant processing center.

Cuban authorities say the US base is an “illegal occupation” of its territory and should be returned to the island nation.
