Cruz used at the first mass in Brazil arrives in SP for Holy Week

THE Cross used at the celebration of the first mass in Brazilian lands landed in São Paulo On the night of Monday (14) for the celebration of Holy Week.

THE Brazil with Faith Movementin partnership with the Archdiocesan Sanctuary Christ the Redeemer and the Redemptor Institutewill hold the event “Brazil with Faith – Celebrating the 525 years of the first mass in Brazil, land of Santa Cruz”Between April 12th and 27th.

THE original cross of the celebration, coming from Braga Museum, in Portugal will travel several cities of the Brazil. The event coincides with the 200 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Portugal, established in 1825.

After the arrival of the cross, the first event with the cross will be Holy Mass at the São Paulo Metropolitan Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Sé, presided by the Metropolitan Archbishop of São Paulo, Cardinal Odilo Scherer, on Tuesday (15), at noon.

Then, at 1 pm, there will be a procession with the heralds of the Gospel, leaving the Cathedral of the See towards the Pateo do Collegio, in the historic center of the state capital.

At 15h an institutional ceremony will be held at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP). Soon after, at 16h, an ecumenical act will take place in the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp). The celebrations end with an institutional visit to the Government of the State of São Paulo, at the Bandeirantes Palace, at 19h.

Several celebrations will be held at the Sanctuary during the Jubilee Year of 2025.

THE cross Peregrina left Braga and Fatima, Portugal, on April 12, passing through several Portuguese and Brazilian cities. The pilgrimage will culminate in Santa Cruz Cabrália, Bahia on April 26, at the celebration of the 525 years of the First Mass in Brazil .
