Criticism of the BC is not only ours, but also the population, says PT leader in the Chamber

Federal deputy and leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) in the Chamber, Zeca Dirceu (PT-PR), told CNN that criticisms of the Central Bank’s interest rate are not just from the base of the federal government. “The population, those who want to invest, everyone is critical of this high rate.”

According to him, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has guided his base to prioritize the economic agenda.

“That is why we had several meetings with the Minister of Finance, Haddad, we are articulating the vote on the tax reform and we have this necessary criticism of abusive interest rates, which make life difficult for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs and farmers,” he said.

Dirceu said that the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, needs to go to Congress to report on the decision to keep interest rates high, and even suggested that he anticipate the movement to summon parliamentarians and go to Congress spontaneously. “We will ask questions, make suggestions and point out different paths.”

According to him, there is no pressure or undue interference by the government in the autarchy, there is the “necessary”.

“What we want is dialogue and understanding in favor of the country”, he said. “Our fight is not ideological, personal or political, it is a discussion about people’s lives that the interest rate ends up having a decisive impact on.”
