In an interview with CNN This Thursday (7), UFRJ Economics professor Armando Castelar said that currently “the criteria for being a Petrobras manager is much more difficult and transparent”.
The professor commented on the appointment of José Mauro Ferreira Coelho for the presidency of the state-owned company and of Marcio Andrade Weber for the presidency of the Board of Directors.
“Although the replacement was announced, it did not change the way the state-owned company works and made it clear that there have been corporate advances since the scandals of the past.”
For the specialist, the new names announced for the command of the state-owned company show that “Petrobras’ transparency is gigantic. Few companies in the world have this characteristic,” he said.
Castelar believes that the main challenge is to manage the company, as it is a large company. In addition, the announced names indicate, according to him, that “the political pressure did not work”, since the indications were, once again, technical.
However, the expert recognizes that tensions must remain. “Tension will always exist, it is a state-owned company, at a time when oil prices are high and we also have elections. These are all elements that increase the stress of those who are going to manage the company,” he said.
Finally, for Castelar, changes in the command of Petrobras do not affect fuel prices. However, he assesses that “there is some room for a small reduction in the coming months”.
For Castelar, this may occur due to the release of oil stocks by other countries. “But the trend is for the international price of a barrel to remain close to US$ 100”, he concludes.
