After a chase followed by a shootout, the Rio Civil Police arrested, this Thursday (14), two men suspected of participating in a gang specializing in “bank robberies” in the center of Rio. Agents from the robbery and theft sector of the 1st DP (Praça Mauá) were already monitoring Rodrigo Alves Pinto and Jirdley Tiuba Junior. Together, the two have 37 criminal records.
This afternoon, the police carried out efforts to find the criminals, who were in a gray Fiat Mobi car that had been stolen in Brás de Pina, in the North Zone of Rio, last year. According to the Police, upon realizing that they were being followed, the criminals shot at the vehicles and there was an exchange of gunfire. Nobody was injured. The agents managed to intercept the vehicle at the return loop close to the central Post and Telegraph building.
According to the chief delegate of the 1st DP, Tiago Dorigo, the gang observed when customers withdrew considerable amounts at bank branches in the central region of the city. Criminals followed customers and made threats with firearms to carry out the robberies. Other criminals participated by providing cover on motorcycles and helping the men who approached the victims escape.
Jirdley Tiuba Junior, who drove the vehicle in the escape attempt, has 19 criminal records for criminal organization, illegal possession of a firearm, criminal association, robbery after looting a financial institution, kidnapping, torture, among other crimes.
Rodrigo Alves Pinto has 18 notes for robbing a passerby, robbery after withdrawal from a financial institution, possession of a firearm, criminal association and robbery of a commercial establishment.
The two will be charged with discharging a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm, criminal association, receiving, resisting, disobedience and tampering with a motor vehicle identification sign.
During the arrest of the two, the Police also seized a pistol with charger and ammunition, in addition to the car used by the criminals. Another weapon was thrown by the criminals into the mangrove channel. Watch the video of the two arrested criminals:

“Heavy shooting here in Cidade Nova, on Avenida Presidente Vargas, opposite the Teleporto. It happened when I was leaving for lunch. There was a lot of running around and many people trying to take shelter in the building”, wrote one of the internet users.
Delegate Tiago Dorigo stated that he will continue with investigations to determine and investigate the authorship of other crimes committed by the criminal organization, in addition to the possibility of participation by bank employees. After the photos of the criminals are released, possible victims can go to the police station to be recognized.
