It is not the first time he has spoken, it is not the first time that he has pleaded innocent, but he had never given a television interview in prison. Alberto Stasi speaks tonight in an episode of the program Hyenas who returns to deal with the crime of Garlasco. “I decided to speak to make sense of this experience, because certain things shouldn’t happen anymore. If a person lives experiences like the one I have lived, this must be made public, available to everyone, and since I have the opportunity to speak I do so, so that people understand, can reflect and even decide, if the system that there is okay or if it is appropriate to change something “.
Seven years after the final sentence (12 December 2015) for the murder of his girlfriend Chiara Poggi speaks from the Bollate prison. The 26-year-old was found dead by her then-boyfriend in August 2007 in the family home in Garlasco in the province of Pavia.
Immediately entered in the register of suspects, he was judged innocent twice and then sentenced to sixteen years in prison. “When they ask me if I killed Chiara I think they don’t know what they are talking about. In the common imagination, an innocent person in prison is someone who suffers to the nth degree. To me he is not, simply because my conscience is light. In the evening when I go to bed I have nothing to reproach myself with. Of course, you feel deprived of a part of your life because taking away the freedom of an innocent person is violence, but you have nothing to reproach yourself with, you have just suffered it, it is not your fault “.
Alberto Stasi attacks the judges and also i Ris di Parma which in his opinion were mythologized at the time. “In the evening people watched television and saw them solve the most complicated crimes in the time of an episode. Finding that people were actually being taken to prison on the basis of tests that did not distinguish blood from a beet illuminated a situation that was thought to be different. That is why I say that that moment was like a point of no return: it was no longer a question of carrying out an investigation but it was a question of saving one’s career, one’s reputation. This then led to a whole series of consequences, of inertia, of inability to go back ».
Stasi is now 38 years old, will be 39 in early July, he was 24 at the time of the crime and was aiming for a career in the company after graduating from Bocconi. “Some things you can’t metabolize if you don’t live them. If you are lucky, or unlucky, to live certain experiences, acquire tools that you can make available and I want to do this ».
For years he has been working for a call center inside the prison and, after serving a third of his sentence, he could be admitted to external work. Quotidiano.net reports the words of the mother of Chiara Poggi: «I’ll see the broadcast. I will hear. Aside from my belief, it is the acts that speak. There are the documents and they are clear ».
