Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) released on Wednesday (23) the result of the analysis of 41 brands of creatine food supplements. The products, available in Brazil, are manufactured by 29 companies.
According to the agency, three factors were evaluated: the creatine content, labeling adequacy and presence of foreign materials. The study result showed that all 41 products analyzed had creatine content below the supplements regulation. See full list .
Also according to Anvisa, the creatine content of a product cannot have a variation of more than 20% of what indicated in labeling. In addition, it is necessary to meet the reference value for this nutrient, which is 3,000mg.
This result is different from that found in productive sector research conducted from 2022 to 2024. For the regulatory agency, manufacturing companies may have made production adjustments. In all products there were no presence of strange articles.
With regard to the labeling of supplements, 40 of the 41 brands evaluated presented inaccuracies or information errors . The most common, according to Anvisa, were:
- ATTRIBUTION TO PRODUCT OF UNCLIMED PROPERTIES FOR CREATINE, INCLUDING INCORRECT ALLEGATIONS IN Foreign Language
- Use of words or images that can induce consumer to incorrect or insufficient information on the supplement
- Nutritional table outside the standard and not declared in the same panel of the ingredient list
- Non -indicated consumption frequency
- Number of portions of the packaging not declared in the nutritional information table
- Nutritional table without the amounts of total sugars and added sugars
Even with the problems, the agency reported that the results do not pose a risk to health and does not require additional inspections. Still, manufacturers can be notified. From September 1, 2025, all supplements available in the market must be regularized at ANVISA.
This determination comes from the Resolution of the Collegiate Board (RDC) 843/2024 by Normative Instruction (IN) 281/2024, which provides for the notification of the regulatory agency for commercialization.
Of the 41 products analyzed, Only one had satisfactory result in all analytical tests conducted the sample of the product Creatine Monohydrate – 100% Pure, from Atlhetica Nutrition brand, manufactured by ADS Laboratory Nutritional Ltda.
One of the samples presented an error in the creatine content and, according to Anvisa, is in administrative and investigation process. For this reason, the name of the brand was not disclosed at this time.
The study
For the survey, Anvisa considered the packaging of 300 grams, considered the most common on the market. The materials were analyzed by the Laboratory of the National Institute for Quality Control in Fiocruz.
In the second half of 2024, direct samples were collected from manufacturing companies in the states of São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Paraná and Espirito Santo. In Rio de Janeiro, the samples were collected in the retail market.
