Cracks and landslides block neighborhoods in Gramado (RS)

Houses and neighborhoods in Gramado, in Rio Grande do Sul, were closed after the appearance of cracks caused by the intense rains that hit the state since last Friday (17). The storms caused two deaths, closed roads and left people homeless.

According to updates from the city hall of Gramado (RS), until the morning of this Wednesday (22), only the central region does not suffer the effects of the storm, in the neighborhood of Três Pinheiros, Piratini, Planalto, residences and buildings remain closed and there are no release date for families to return.

The neighborhood of Três Pinheiros is completely blocked for people to travel and stay. The Piratini neighborhood has around 23 closed residences. Residents of a condominium in the Planalto neighborhood have been out of their homes since Saturday (18) due to the risk of landslides, the city hall said in a statement.

To assist the homeless, a shelter was set up in the gymnasium of Escola Senador Salgado Filho where 30 people are assisted.

The main access roads to the city have already been opened. Tourist, commercial and event activities, as well as the programming of the 38th Natal Luz de Gramado, occur normally, as the rains did not reach the central area of ​​the municipality.

Situation in RS

According to information from the State Civil Defense, as of early afternoon this Wednesday (22), 25,479 homeless people and 4,204 people were registered in public shelters.

Data verified from November 15th to 22nd recorded 5 deaths across the state and around 179 municipalities reported damage or incidents due to the storms.
