The Justice of Pernambuco decided to maintain the arrest of the six military police officers from Bope accused of qualified homicide after an evidentiary hearing held this Wednesday (18), in the 1st Jury Court of the Capital, in Recife.
During the session, the five prosecution witnesses indicated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Pernambuco (MPPE) were heard. The defendants’ defense requested the defendants’ release, but the request was denied by the judge.
The police officers Josias Andrade Silva Junior, Rafael de Alencar Sampaio, Brunno Matteus Berto Lacerda, Carlos Alberto de Amorim Junior, Italo José de Lucena Souza and Lucas de Almeida Freire Albuquerque are responsible for the deaths of Rhaldney Fernandes da Silva Caluete and Bruno Henrique Vicente da Silva, which occurred in November 2023, in the Detran community, in the Iputinga neighborhood, West Zone of Recife.
They must remain imprisoned at the Military Police Reeducation Center (Creed), in Abreu e Lima, in Greater Recife.
The hearing marked the beginning of the evidentiary phase of the case, which will continue on January 23, 2025, at 9 am, with the hearing of defense witnesses and the interrogation of the defendants.
The case gained great repercussion after security cameras recorded the moment when police invaded a residence and removed the victims’ bodies wrapped in sheets.
The next session will be held at the 1st Jury Court of the Capital, at the Desembargador Rodolfo Aureliano Forum, in the Joana Bezerra neighborhood, central area of Recife.
