Court releases pilot involved in speedboat accident with two dead in Bahia

The Court of Justice of Bahia granted, this Wednesday (10), provisional freedom to the pilot of a speedboat that crashed into another vessel on the island of Boipeba, in the south of Bahia. The accident happened on December 29 and left two people dead.

The pilot, identified as Aldir Do Rosario do Amor Divino, was arrested red-handed on the same day. According to the delegate responsible for the investigations, he showed “signs of drunkenness” at the time of his arrest and had already been arrested on other occasions for driving a boat while drinking alcohol.

The accident caused the death of Mário André Machado Cabral, 34 years old, from Alagoas, and Larissa Fanny Galantini Pires, 35 years old, from São Paulo.

A CNN , Aldir's defense lawyer, Israel Ventura, claimed that the man took a breathalyzer test four hours after the accident and provided appropriate assistance to the victims. According to him, there was no evidence of drunkenness.

The pilot will have to comply with precautionary measures and is prohibited from driving any maritime vessel for at least six months. He is being investigated for the crimes of attacking the safety of river maritime transport, provided for in article 261 of the criminal procedure code.

Remember the case

The vessel hit on December 29 left Valença and was carrying twelve passengers to Boipeba. The other boat, piloted by Aldir do Rosário, was on a tour of the region, known as 'Volta à Ilha'. The vehicles collided around 3:30 pm, causing a wreck and the death of two people.

Another woman went missing, but was found hours later. The pilot of the boat involved in the accident was also injured, but was discharged from Valença Hospital the day after the accident.
