Couple death: suspect of killing girlfriend was investigated for domestic violence

Sérgio Correa, aged 59, found dead with his girlfriend Eduarda Gorgik, aged 25, was being investigated for domestic violence against his ex-wife in 2017. The Santa Catarina Civil Police states that the man had a record of carrying a shotgun and a revolver.

The 38 caliber revolver was used in the crime, on the night of last Sunday (14), in a luxury apartment located in the center of the city of Itapema (SC), where the couple's bodies were found, according to the delegate responsible for the case, Ícaro Malveira, from the Civil Police of Santa Catarina.

This Thursday (18), the Civil Police listen to the young woman's friends and family. This Wednesday (17), employees and Sérgio's sister gave a statement to the authorities. According to the delegate, the man's ex-wife showed no interest in contributing to the investigation.

Police are still trying to access cell phones found in the apartment's fire hydrant. Security camera images from the building where the couple lived for three years were collected and show the moment the victim places them in the hydrant box.

The investigation aims to determine the motivation for the crime. In an interview with CNN police chief Ícaro Malveira stated that the apartment door was locked from the inside and the trajectory of the shots left no doubt that a feminicide followed by suicide had occurred.

The results of the analysis of the bodies and the shooting expertise are still awaited by the police.
