Before the end of 2021 and specifically next December, will begin a six-month pilot phase, the transfer of the capital Cairo to the new Administrative Capital of Egypt which will be the newest capital in the world.
The name of the new capital has not yet been determined, but the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi appointed the Council of Ministers to begin the relocation of civil servants to this new city from December.
The new Egyptian capital, which covers an area of 700 square kilometers, is located 60 kilometers from Cairo in the area between the highways leading from Cairo to Suez and from Cairo to Ain Sochna. According to the APE-MPE, the construction of the state-of-the-art city started in 2015 and is going to host 6.5 million people, when completed.
The city has an entire area where it will host 10 large bands that will house 34 ministries, as well as the Prime Minister’s Palace and the House of Representatives. A Greek church of the Patriarchate of Alexandria will be erected in the city, in a space donated by Al Sisi to the Palaifatos Secondary Throne Patriarchate.
In fact, 52,300 civil servants were to be relocated to the new capital by mid-2020, but the coronavirus pandemic delayed the Egyptian government’s plans.
