Visitors to Copenhagen, Denmark, who participate in sustainable activities such as collecting litter or using public transport will be able to be rewarded with free food cultural experiences and tours. The initiative is part of a new program.
The idea behind the CopenPay project, which runs from July 15 to August 11, is to “turn sustainable actions into rewards for cultural experiences,” the Danish capital’s tourism authority said. Visit Copenhagen also known as Wonderful Copenhagen, in a statement on Monday (8).
For example, visitors who bring plastic waste to the National Gallery of Denmark will gain access to a workshop where they can transform it into a piece of art, while those who cycle or use public transport to reach the city’s heating plant at CopenHill will be able to skiing on an artificial ski slope on the roof of the building .
“CopenPay rewards actions like cycling, participating in clean-up efforts or volunteering at urban farms with access to a variety of enriching experiences and wonders in Copenhagen. These include free guided museum tours, free kayak rentals and even a free vegetarian lunch made with local produce,” the statement from Wonderful Copenhagen added.
The Danish capital is popular with visitors for its beautiful architecture, high-quality food and a safe, clean and green environment .
It’s a great place to cycle, with 382 kilometres of cycle paths, and 62% of citizens commute by bike, according to the tourism board.
“With CopenPay, we encourage people to enjoy more of what Copenhagen has to offer while polluting our planet less,” he said. “We must transform the environmental burden of tourism into a force for positive change, and an important step in this transformation is changing how we travel, what we consume and how we interact with locals,” Hansen said in the Wonderful Copenhagen press release.
