In just a decade, corn production in Mato Grosso has more than doubled, from around 18 million tons in the 2011 and 2012 harvests to over 39 million in the current season.
In the last ten years, the area destined for grain crops, which did not reach 3 million hectares, jumped to almost 6.5 million hectares.
Cleiton Gauer, from the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), said the main factors that led to such a significant increase in corn production in Mato Grosso.
“The crop fitted very well into the farm’s production system, with a second crop. Over time, after all the structural changes, really due to the advent of corn ethanol routes in Mato Grosso, changes in price levels and the whole structure, an important revenue and use of the cultivated area by the producer.”
“The expectation for the future is that we project an increase for 2030, a cultivated area reached 8.8 million hectares and an estimated production of 67 million tons.“
