CONIB: Anti -Semitism complaints rise 350% between 2022 and 2024 in Brazil

The world is experiencing alarming growth in cases of anti -Semitism, and Brazil follows the same trend. This is what data released on Tuesday (15), in an Israeli Confederation event of Brazil (Conib).

In 2024, 73% of all complaints of anti -Semitism made in the country occurred in the digital environment, a significant leap compared to the 51% recorded in 2022.

The report shows that 84,971 anti -Semitic mentions on the Internet were identified over the past year.

Social networks X (former Twitter) and Instagram continue as the main Jewish intolerance case platforms, with 48% and 37% of reports of cases in networks.

OX starts to occupy first place, from 32% in 2023 to 48% in 2024.

However, cases are not restricted to the digital environment alone. The main occurrences include vandalism, verbal and physical aggressions.

São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul concentrate about 40% of all reports registered in the country.

Recent examples drew attention for symbolic violence: on September 7, 2024, during a German traditionalist parade, an old car passed by displaying a Nazi flag. Ten days later, in Itajaí (SC), posters that congratulated Adolf Hitler were glued to town posts.

The president of the Israeli Federation of the State of São Paulo, Marcos Knobel, highlighted the significant increase in complaints after the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in October 2023.

“With this war, we have seen that anti -joining has manifested itself in the form of anti -Semitism. Nothing against you being against the politics of a government, but when you want the destruction of a country, it is anti -Semitism,” he said.

Conib president Claudio Lottenberg stressed that “anti -Semitism is not just a challenge for Jews, it is a challenge for people who want good.”

For experts, the data show increasing radicalization since 2019. According to Conib, the goal is not only not only to warn, but also to collaborate with the definition of strategies to contain the advance of anti -Semitism in Brazil. This, according to the Confederation, includes the work of the intelligence of security forces that work together for active search on social networks.
