The expert stressed the increase in life expectancy in the last 20 to 30 years. “Today, we arrive at the 78 -year level the life expectancy, on average in these countries,” he said. In addition, there was a significant reduction in child mortality, from 25 to about 12 to 13 deaths per 100,000 births.
Despite these progress, Fingermann warned of persistent problems, especially in Central America. She mentioned the lasting impact of the Cold War and the Cuban Revolution, which left the region “a little hostage” due to the geographical proximity with the United States.
Regional dynamics and challenges
In South America, the teacher highlighted the competition between Brazil and Argentina as a factor that sometimes weakens the potential for regional growth. “When there is cooperation between these two -key countries, it is more important,” he explained, emphasizing the positive impact of collaboration between the two nations.
An alarming data pointed out by Fingermann was the increase in femicide in the region. “It’s impressive how a lot has increased and has grown a lot of femicide in the region,” he noted, highlighting this as a worrying aspect of crime in Latin America.
