The Turkish presidency hit back, with the state-run Anadolu Agency broadcasting photos and videos of babies rescued from the wreckage in Kahramanmaras in southern Turkey being transported to Ankara by the presidential plane.

“Of course, there are gaps, it is impossible that we were prepared for such a disaster,” he stressed, adding that the government will speed up the removal of rubble and the construction of houses.
