London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick resigned from her post on Thursday.
In a statement released on Thursday, she said: “It is with great sadness that after contacting the Mayor of London today, it is clear that he no longer has enough confidence in my leadership to continue. He left me no choice but to step aside as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service.”
Cressida Dick was responsible for authorizing the shooting that killed Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes in 2005. The 27-year-old electrician was in a London subway station and was shot by local police when he was mistaken for a fugitive terrorist.
