A “serious disruption” in the European Union’s gas supply from Russia is possible, the head of the Energy Commission said today, as broadcast by Reuters.
He also called on countries to review their emergency plans to deal with energy crises and to switch to alternative fuels where possible to conserve their gas reserves.
“We know from the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that a very serious disturbance is possible and now seems likely,” Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said after a meeting of EU energy ministers.
“We have done a lot of important work to prepare for that. But now is the time to step up our efforts,” he added.
The European Commission has said it will propose a European plan for new energy shocks in July, as Russia has already reduced or reduced supplies to 12 of the 27 European Member States.
