The Colombian government declared a state of national health emergency on Wednesday night (16) due to the increase in cases of yellow fever.
The outbreak resulted in 74 confirmed cases and 34 deaths since the beginning of last year, Health Minister Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo said.
Yellow fever is a viral disease transmitted by the bite of Aedes and Haemagogus mosquitoes.
Jaramillo stated that the most critical situation is in Tolima, in the Midwest of Colombia, where 22 cases were detected.
