THE Petrobras announced a new change in the company’s presidency, after José Mauro Ferreira Coelho resigned from the position and the director Fernando Borges temporarily assume command of the state.
According to Petrobras’ Bylaws, the substitute will remain in charge until the election and inauguration of the new president. The government nominee is Caio Mario Paes de Andrade former Secretary of Debureaucratization, Management and Digital Government at the Ministry of Economy, responsible for the Gov.br platform.
Caio Paes de Andrade moved from the private to the public sector in 2019, when he assumed the presidency of Serpro (Federal Service for Data Processing), a public company that provides Information Technology services.
He remained in the position until August 2020, when he moved to the Ministry’s secretariat. Andrade is also a member of the Board of Directors of Embrapa and PPSA (Pré-Sal Petróleo SA).
The executive was appointed to take over Petrobras shortly after the resignation of José Mauro Coelho, about a month ago. Now, experts have told the CNN that with the departure of Coelho, the progress of the process for the inauguration of Caio Paes de Andrade should be speeded up.
To take command of the state-owned company, Andrade’s name must be approved by the company’s Board of Directors, which must now gather the information necessary to decide whether or not to approve the executive.
As advanced by CNN analyst Thais Arbex, the exchange was defended by high-ranking members of the Esplanade of Ministries on the grounds that the top of the state-owned company needs to be more aligned with Minister Adolfo Sachsida.
According to reports made to CNN Brazil Guedes’ assistant was even interviewed by the minister of Mines and Energy at the time, Bento Albuquerque, before the invitation made to economist Adriano Pires.
However, minority advisers interviewed by CNN in May said that Andrade would not have the necessary experience required by the State-owned Companies Act and Petrobras’ statute.
By law, the applicant must work for ten years in the same area of the company or at least four years in a company of equivalent size or in a position of trust in the public service.
