O Koala Festival its edition was confirmed for 2024, the year in which it celebrates 10 years of the event’s creation. The information was confirmed this Wednesday (22), in addition to announcing that a version of Coala will be launched in Portugal.
The decision to hold an edition in Portugal follows the line of the renowned Rock in Rio. After debuting in Rio de Janeiro in 1985 and remaining strong until today, the festival launched the Rock in Rio Lisboa summer in 2003.
The Coala Festival 2024, which will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event, will take place on the 6th, 7th and 8th of September, at the Memorial da América Latina. There is still no information about lineup, price or ticket sales.
The edition in Portugal will take place on the 1st and 2nd of June, in Cascais. Gilberto Gil has already been confirmed as a member of the lineup for the Portuguese version. According to the founding partner and curator of Coala Festival, Gabriel Andrade, Coala’s work has always been “to strengthen national artists”. “We have become a reference in Brazil and, now, we have the mission of taking our identity to Portugal,” he said in the statement.
To curate the festival in Portugal, Coala invited Angolan writer Kalaf Epalanga, kuduro musician and author of “Also os Brancos Sabem Dançar”, to bring different types of music that are sung in Portuguese.
