THE National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) He said on Monday (21) that the papal succession process will be led with discernment and prayer, respecting the plurality of realities represented at the College of Cardinals.

“With this period of prayer and, above all, if he is conducted by the Holy Spirit, these representations will present what the current moment requires. Pope Francis, we thank him for making very plural,” said CNBB Secretary-General Dom Ricardo Hoepers at a press conference on Monday.
Hoepers also highlighted the Pope’s simplicity, including decisions related to the funeral himself.
“The Pope opted for more simplicity in the funerals. He chose to be buried in Santa Maria Maior, was a church of confession. These are small gestures that already showed us the simplicity of his way of being and, at the time of his death, continues to teach us to be simple,” he said.
The CNBB reported that Brazilian bishops are already mobilized for a period of nine days of mourning and prayer. An extraordinary meeting of the Assembly will be called to decide the entity’s next steps.
