Climate crisis: Civil Defense becomes a department in Amazonas

The Civil Defense of Amazonas is now a state department. The new measure was approved by the legislative assembly on Wednesday (11) and comes at the same time that Manaus declared a state of emergency for 180 days due to the drought.

The measure seeks to strengthen actions and increase their capacity to respond to emergencies, providing greater autonomy and resources to act in an increasingly challenging scenario.

The new secretariat will allow Civil Defense to better coordinate actions and allocate resources more efficiently, ensuring a faster and more effective response in crisis situations.

The secretariat should start operating in the coming weeks, with the implementation of new guidelines and the definition of new strategies.

Manaus declares state of emergency for 180 days due to drought

The Manaus City Hall declared a state of emergency for 180 days due to the drought affecting the state of Amazonas and the capital.

The measure seeks to address the impacts of the severe drought, which is already affecting the population and putting riverside communities at risk. In addition to allowing emergency actions, the decree authorizes the mobilization of resources and partnerships to minimize the social, economic and environmental effects caused by the prolonged drought.
