Civil Police arrest drivers who used fake Uber accounts in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro Civil Police arrested, last Thursday (29), three drivers suspected of using fake Uber accounts to transport passengers. The arrests took place during an operation in the area of Galeão International Airport, on Governador Island, North Zone of the city.

This is the fourth time that the Civil Police and agents from the Rio de Janeiro International Airport Police Station (DAIRJ) have carried out an operation to arrest drivers.

According to the police, these men, in most cases, have their accounts canceled on the platform for a variety of reasons, whether for failing to comply with the platform’s guidelines, or even due to complaints from passengers, such as in cases of harassment.

And in an attempt to circumvent the platform ban, they look for internet pages, or social networks, that promise to re-register the banned driver on the platform, in exchange for payment of a sum of money, or deposit via Pix.

According to the police, after the transfer of the amount, those responsible for the pages register these drivers again, with their own photos, but inserting another name or surname, causing the discrepancy, making it impossible, for example, for a possible customer complaint to be attributed to that professional.

“We were able to determine that certain individuals acquired a new identity and inserted this new identity into the platform so that they could return to work,” also explained delegate Filipi Poeys, head of the Rio de Janeiro International Airport Police Station (DAIRJ).

During the “Uber Fake” operation, several stops were made on the road leading to Galeão International Airport. In total, 12 people have been arrested. All of them were drivers who were carrying out rides using fake accounts, and are charged under article 299 of the penal code with ideological falsehood.

The “Uber Fake” operation also had the support of the Association of App Drivers.

THE CNN I looked for Uber and am waiting for a response.
