People over 45 years old will be able to receive the second booster dose against Covid-19 from Wednesday (22) in the city of São Paulo. The interval between the first additional dose is at least four months, according to the Municipal Health Department. The population of this age group can also be vaccinated against the flu.
The expansion of the second booster dose for the population aged 40 to 49 years follows the recommendation of the Ministry of Health and will take place in stages in the capital of São Paulo. In all, 1,020,863 people in this age group are able to receive the additional dose, with about 500,000 between 45 and 49 years old.
According to the secretary, the city has sufficient doses and supplies for the vaccination of the new groups announced.
The third booster dose is also available for highly immunosuppressed people aged 50 years and older, at least four months apart after the second additional dose.
“The city of São Paulo will carry out the vaccination in a staggered way, as there are a large number of people between 40 and 49 years old in the capital. Thus, we guarantee better comfort to the population, offering reinforcement to all eligible”, said the municipal secretary of Health, Luiz Carlos Zamarco, in a statement.
Vaccination coverage
So far, more than 32 million doses of vaccine against Covid-19 have been applied in the capital, with more than 11 million intended for the first dose, more than 11 million as second doses, about 364 thousand single doses (Janssen). 7.4 million additional first doses and 1.6 million second booster doses were also given.
Vaccination coverage of the population over 18 years of age is 110.4% for the first dose, 107% for the complete primary vaccination schedule, 79.5% for the first booster and 65.6% for the second booster.
In adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, more than 980,000 doses were administered for the first application, representing a vaccination coverage of 116.2%. More than 884,000 doses were also administered, completing the primary vaccination schedule, with 104.8% coverage, in addition to more than 153,000 booster doses.
In children aged 5 to 11 years, more than 996,000 initial doses were administered, representing a vaccination coverage of 92%, and 748,452 doses completing the vaccination schedule, reaching 69.1% of those eligible.
