City of São Paulo will serve as a showcase for 5G in Brazil, assesses expert

The 5G signal arrives this Thursday (4) in São Paulo. This movement, according to the editor-in-chief of MIT Technology Review, Rafael Coimbra, will serve as a showcase for technology in Brazil.

“In this moment of testing, São Paulo will draw attention, as it is the economic center of the country, with a large population, it should be a showcase”, he said, in an interview with CNN Radio.

The expert assesses that “there is great competition from operators”: “If they perform well with 5G, this will help consumers migrate to 5G plans, and it is not yet clear whether there will be a price increase on these packages.”

Rafael Coimbra believes that “it is fundamental from the point of view of commercial strategy that there is great success in São Paulo.”

“There is very strong investment, despite having invested in many antennas in São Paulo, but not all regions will be covered, it will be more in central regions, outside the center people may not feel the immediate effects.”

According to Coimbra, not all cell phones are prepared for the technology and consumers should seek information from their telephone operators.

Rafael Coimbra assesses that 5G “does not work miracles”, but is “a tool that enables society”: “I alert society so that companies and governments know how to plan what to do with technology.”

He highlights that 5G will bring a better quality and more stable connection.

The 5G signal has already been established in Brasília, Belo Horizonte, João Pessoa and Porto Alegre.
