Chrome now has a pop-up Google window so you can google without leaving the tab

Half a year ago, testing versions of Chrome introduced the Side Search feature, which allows you to open a miniature Google pop-up window on the left for a quick search without leaving the open tab. However, it worked exclusively in the browser version for the proprietary Chrome OS operating system. Now, according to 9To5Google citing @Leopeva64, the option works on all desktop systems (Windows, macOS and Linux) – just install the latest version of Chrome Canary and activate the #side-search flag.

Side Search opens in the upper left corner when you click the Google button. The author of this note had to force the option to activate and restart the browser several times in order for it to work.

Google will not become the exclusive search engine for Side Search – the company says that any search engine will support the feature if its engine is adapted for the new option. It is expected that the innovation will reach the stable release with the release of Chrome 100 or 101.
