Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s son diagnosed with type 1 diabetes

The model Chrissy Teigen 38, and the singer John Legend 45, have announced that their six-year-old son Miles has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The news was confirmed after Chrissy shared a photo of her children cheering on the U.S. gymnastics team at the Olympics, where eagle-eyed fans noticed a glucose monitor on the boy’s arm.

The presenter used Instagram to thank everyone for the loving messages she received when she revealed the condition, which affects the body’s ability to produce insulin.

“Many of you noticed something special in a photo I posted a few days ago – Luna [filha mais velha do casal]Miles and I rooting for Simone [Biles] and Team USA. Miles had his hand raised, and so many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I’ve ever seen on this platform. You noticed his type 1 diabetes monitor and sent so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was and still am amazed at the empathy of this community,” she began.

“I know. Things could be so much worse!! Many parents around the world are facing inconceivable situations that I could never have imagined. I tell myself this every time we get an alert [do monitor] on our phones. And we are so blessed to have so much help and such a wonderful, caring, and big-hearted specialist.”

Chrissy, who is also mother to Esti and Wren from her relationship with John, explained that the condition was detected by chance after Miles was hospitalized with an intestinal infection and needed to have blood tests.

“A few weeks ago, our Miles was sick in the hospital with a terrible bout of Shigella, an intestinal infection caused by a group of bacteria found in food or water. Many of his friends had the same thing, as they went to the same camp and, well, these things happen! But the doctors noticed something strange in his blood tests. I’ve since learned that this is how many young children end up being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes: during a hospital visit for treatment of something completely different.”

She also shared some details about the start of her son’s treatment: “Last night we gave him his first dose of insulin and here we go! A whole new world for us and we are certainly learning a lot along the way. This post is to thank everyone for their kindness. It helps Miles so much to know that so many others are going through the same thing and that he is not alone.”
