On Thursday (24), China sent naval and aerial forces to monitor and alert a US-guided missile destroyer ship that sailed the Taiwan Strait.
The US Navy, occasionally accompanied by ships from allied countries, passes the sea route about once a month. China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, says the strategic waterway belongs to it.
In addition, the eastern country carried out war exercises in Taiwan earlier this month, which was condemned by the island government and caused concern for the United States and its allies.
The command of the Eastern Theater of the China Popular Liberation Army (ELP) identified the ship as the USS William P. Lawrence, and said he passed the narrow on Wednesday (23) in an act of “public propaganda”.
“The relevant comments of the United States reversed right and wrong, distorted legal principles, confused the public and misled international perception,” the command said in a statement, without specifying what comments they referred to.
“We are telling the United States to stop their distortions and exaggeration and work together to maintain peace and stability in Taiwan’s Strait,” he added.
The US Navy has not yet responded to the comments. His last navigation publicly announced by the Strait was in February.
