At the end of 2021, China became the world leader in sales of electric vehicles. This is evidenced by a new report from the General Administration of Customs of China.
499,573 electric vehicles were delivered to the Chinese market last year, according to the Chinese customs department. This is 2.6 times more than in 2020 and noticeably more compared to other countries. More than 100,000 of those nearly 500,000 electric vehicles were built at Tesla’s Shanghai plant. In second place in the supply of electric cars is Germany. There last year, sales of electric cars doubled to 230,000 units. But in the United States, which occupies the third place, on the contrary, there is a decline. In 2021, sales of electric cars in the States fell by 30% to 110,000 units.
Today, China accounts for 60% of the world’s electric vehicle production. The Middle Kingdom is becoming the center for the production of electric vehicles, as is the case with electronics. This, however, is not surprising, given that in China the cost of producing electric vehicles is about 50% lower than in other countries.
Over the past year, the export of electric vehicles from China to European countries has increased five times. Europe now accounts for about half of all electric vehicle exports from China.
