China: disappointment with US veto of ceasefire resolution between Israel

China expressed “strong disappointment” that the United States blocked a draft United Nations Security Council resolution on the war between Israel and Hamas, calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, Xinhua reported on Wednesday on Friday (21 local time), citing China's permanent representative to the UN, Zhang Jun.

The United States vetoed this Tuesday (20), for the third time, a draft Security Council resolution, blocking the demand for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, as it instead pressures the 15-member body to call for a temporary ceasefire linked to the release of hostages held by Hamas.

“China expresses its strong disappointment and dissatisfaction with the US veto,” Zhang Jun said, according to Xinhua.

“The US veto sends the wrong message, pushing the situation in Gaza into an even more dangerous situation,” Zhang said, adding that objection to the ceasefire in Gaza is “nothing different from giving the green light to continued massacre.” .
