- WWF Brazil Ambassador
Whether in comics or animation, the country character has always reminded us of the importance of protecting nature, valuing fauna and flora. In 2020, for example, he became an official ambassador for WWF-Brazil, a non-profit organization that works to defend life.
- Has had his own magazine for over 40 years
Despite having been created in 1961 as a sketch, his first appearance in newspaper strips was in 1963. However, Chico Bento only gained his own magazine on August 26, 1982, published by Editora Abril, bringing his captivating and unique personality of a mischievous boy.

Early next year, the character’s story will come to life on Brazilian movie screens in a live-action version. In “Chico Bento e a Goiabeira Maraviósa”, Chico will be portrayed as a child, played by the 11-year-old influencer from Minas Gerais, Isaac Amendoim.
In the story, a construction on Nhô Lau’s land threatens to knock down his guava tree and a movement begins to prevent this from happening.

Chico Bento was inspired by Mauricio’s childhood life on the farm. He portrayed everything he witnessed in his comic strips and stories. He got his name from his great-uncle. He was a country boy from the countryside until the 1970s and his main characteristic was being slow and easily irritated by things.
