Check out Trump and Kamala’s key speeches at the ABC Presidential Debate

Former US President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris traded blows Tuesday night (10) as they worked to convey their policy positions to voters during the ABC presidential debate.

The clash marked the first time the two candidates had met in person.

Check out some of the main speeches from Trump and Kamala’s meeting on stage:

Economy

Kamala emphasized her plan for an “opportunity economy” and praised her proposals to make housing more affordable and expand the child tax credit.

Trump has argued that his tariff plan would help Americans. He has proposed tariffs of 10% to 20% on most items imported into the United States, except for Chinese goods — which would be subject to a 60% tariff. That would cost Americans $2,600 a year, according to the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

Project 2025

Trump distanced himself from the conservative policy blueprint Project 2025 after Kamala accused him of being linked to the “dangerous plan.” He said, “I have nothing to do with Project 2025.”

Abortion

The former president defended his decision to support Florida’s six-week abortion ban and emphasized his position that abortion should be a state issue.

He also praised the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade and its role in appointing conservative justices to the court.

Kamala criticized what she called “Trump’s abortion bans” since the ruling guaranteeing abortion rights was overturned and said the former president “should not tell a woman what to do with her body.”

Foreign policy

Kamala said she agreed with President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan in 2021, saying Trump “negotiated one of the weakest deals you can imagine” on the issue during his time as president.

On the Ukraine war, Trump argued that he could “solve” the conflict within 24 hours, but did not say whether he wanted Ukraine to win. He also falsely claimed that Kamala met with Russian President Vladimir Putin days before the invasion.

Kamala said “world leaders are laughing” at Trump.

Medical assistance

Trump said he has “concepts of a plan” to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, something he has previously promised to do.

Harris responded that Trump has tried dozens of times to get rid of the ACA and praised the Biden administration’s work to lower prescription drug costs and cap the cost of insulin. She said she would strengthen the program if elected president.

Race

When asked about his false claim that Kamala “just happened to become black” for political purposes, Trump said he “didn’t care one bit” about his opponent’s race.

Kamala called Trump’s comments about her racial identity a “tragedy” and attacked his record on race relations in America.
