Charles Hoskinson Isn’t Happy With AI Censorship

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has expressed concerns about AI censorship, saying current models are run by a small group of people who select the information they learn from.

“I continue to worry about the profound consequences of AI censorship. Over time, they lose usefulness due to learning to reconcile. This means that certain knowledge is prohibited for every child growing up, and it is decided by a small group of people you have never met and cannot vote them out of office,” Hoskinson wrote.

He posted two screenshots asking ChatGPT and Claude to tell him how to build Farnsworth fusor.

  • a chatbot from OpenAI talked about the device, named the components required for assembly and warned about the importance of following safety measures;
  • his competitor also talked about the fusor, but did not provide manufacturing instructions due to the potential danger of the device.

Users in the comments to Hoskinson’s post noted that AI should be decentralized and open.

“Today I asked GPT to give me ideas, pros and cons of different ways to promote digital art, and one of them was NFT. One of the concerns has been that blockchain technology is an environmental issue, although obviously this is a minor issue in this regard. We need open source AI,” wrote user X under the nickname Doogz Media.
