Fox Business senior correspondent Charles Gasparino said that the White House administration considers Bitcoin mining a threat to the normal functioning of the energy system.

The growing demand for Bitcoin mining, driven by the rising cost of the cryptocurrency, creates risks of shortage of existing energy capacity. According to Charles Gasparino, this has raised concerns within the White House administration regarding the sustainability and reliability of energy infrastructure.

Gasparino emphasized that representatives of the mining industry have a different opinion on this matter – they believe that the authorities’ fears are exaggerated.

Let us recall that last summer the White House Council of Economic Advisers proposed establishing a tax on electrical energy used for the production of virtual assets in the amount of 30% of the operator’s total electricity costs.

The Energy Information Agency (EIA) previously said that cryptocurrency miners accounted for between 0.6% and 2.3% of total US energy consumption last year. The entire state of Utah used about the same amount of electricity.
